Beiwen Zhang’s exceptional performance at the Yonex-Sunrise Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta India Open 2018 has propelled her to No.8 in the HSBC Race to Guangzhou rankings, marking a career-best achievement. Zhang’s victory over defending champion Pusarla V Sindhu in the Women’s Singles final in New Delhi allowed her to secure 9,200 points and break into the top ten. Pusarla also experienced success despite her final loss, as her 7,800 points elevated her 20 spots to No.5 in the rankings.

The HSBC BWF World Tour has already featured four completed tournaments in January: the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters, the Perodua Malaysia Masters, the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters, and the Yonex-Sunrise Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta India Open.

Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand currently holds the top spot in Women’s Singles with 22,040 points, having won the Malaysia Masters and reached the semifinals in Indonesia and India. Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei is in second place, trailing Intanon by 5,040 points. Carolina Marin of Spain, Nitchaon Jindapol from Thailand, Indian players Pusarla V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, He Bingjiao from China, Goh Jin Wei from Malaysia, and Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt complete the top ten.

Notably, the early leg of the World Tour witnessed the rise of several players with lesser profiles. Cheung Ngan Yi from Hong Kong climbed an impressive 35 places to No.12 after reaching her first semifinal at this level of event in India. Yip Pui Yin from Hong Kong (No.14) and Beatriz Corrales from Spain (No.15), who both made it to the quarterfinals in India, also made significant progress in the rankings.
