Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet’s dedication in training has finally paid off. After a long wait, they emerged victorious at the HYLO Open 2023 in Saarbrucken, securing their first title since the 2019 Korea Masters. Despite the setbacks they faced after the Gwangju tournament, Tang and Tse never lost their focus and remained committed to honing their skills.

Their return to the final stage took two years, and although they fell short in the Indonesia Masters 2021 and the Tokyo 2020 bronze medal playoff, they continued to push themselves in practice. Tang attributes their recent success to their unwavering intensity and believes that their overall abilities and different aspects of their game have improved significantly over the past four years.

The hard-fought victory at the HYLO Open has given Tang and Tse a tremendous boost of confidence. It has also spurred them on to achieve even better results in the future. Tse, in particular, expressed her joy at winning in Germany, as it brought back fond memories of her first title in the country 13 years ago.

In the post-match interviews, several players shared their thoughts on their performances and future goals:

  • Beiwen Zhang: “I’m finally stress-free. People were expecting me to win the Pan Am Games and this tournament. I’ve achieved both, and now I believe I can qualify for the World Tour Finals too. I can relax a little bit now.”

  • Liu Yu Chen: “We really needed this title to boost our confidence, and now we’ve done it. We will carry this spirit forward, aim for more championships, and strive to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.”

  • Chou Tien Chen: “After losing in the final last year, I was determined to come back and make history. I’m thrilled that I did it.” With his fourth title, Chou Tien Chen became the most successful men’s singles player in the tournament’s history.
