The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is dedicated to combatting illegal betting, match-fixing, and corruption in sports. To further this commitment, BWF has recently partnered with the International Olympic Committee’s Integrity Betting Intelligence System (IBIS).
IBIS is an intelligence-sharing digital platform that allows BWF and its 180 member associations to access a vast network of monitoring and data-sharing across various sports, event owners, and major sports-betting entities.

The objectives set forth by the IOC through the implementation of IBIS are three-fold:
- Safeguarding sports from the threat of illegal sports betting.
- Supporting international federations and multi-sport event organizers with intelligence and information exchange.
- Creating a framework for transparency, confidentiality, and trust amongst all users.
BWF joins other Olympic winter sports federations and a growing number of Olympic summer sports federations, such as FIBA, IRB, ITF, UCI, and FIVB, in joining IBIS ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating that access to the IBIS platform will strengthen BWF’s efforts to ensure badminton remains a clean sport that upholds the principles of fair play. He emphasized BWF’s dedication to combating corruption in sport and spreading this philosophy among its global membership.

To commemorate this partnership, BWF recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the IOC, and the implementation of the IBIS system will be effective from January 2015.
IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell commended BWF for their commitment to clean competitions and their involvement in the Integrity Betting Intelligence System. McConnell stated that IBIS will be utilized not only for the badminton competitions at the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games but also for BWF’s major tournaments. He also mentioned that IBIS was successfully implemented during the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, with all Olympic Winter IFs participating in the project. The objective now is to integrate all Olympic Summer IFs leading up to the Olympic Games in Rio.
This partnership between BWF and IBIS is a significant step in creating a fair and corruption-free environment in sports. The utilization of advanced intelligence and data-sharing platforms like IBIS strengthens the collective effort to uphold the integrity of sports competitions, ensuring a level playing field for all athletes.
