Either Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour or Michelle Li of Canada will compete for the first-ever Commonwealth Women’s Singles gold medal for their respective countries tomorrow. Let’s take a look at the highlights from the semi-finals.


Women’s Singles

Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour showed remarkable determination, coming from 11-19 down to win the second game and secure a 21-13 21-19 victory over Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia. Gilmour’s performance brought the fans to a frenzy. On the other hand, Canadian Michelle Li continued her dream run with a nail-biting win (22-20 22-20) over top seed PV Sindhu of India. Li had previously defeated Sindhu in the Mixed Team competition, making this victory all the more impressive.


Men’s Singles

In the Men’s Singles category, Derek Wong of Singapore made an incredible comeback after being just two points away from losing. He defeated India’s RV Gurusaidutt with a score of 16-21 21-19 21-15. Another Indian player, Kashyap Parupalli, also staged a comeback to thwart England’s Rajiv Ouseph with a score of 18-21 21-17 21-18.


Mixed Doubles

The finals for the Mixed Doubles category will be an all-England affair. Chris Langridge and Heather Olver survived a tough match against Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pei Jing, winning with a score of 15-21 22-20 21-13. Their fellow countrymen, Chris and Gabrielle Adcock, also secured a spot in the finals by defeating the Scottish duo Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier with a score of 21-14 21-14.

Women’s Doubles

Malaysia’s Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei dismissed England’s Gabrielle Adcock and Lauren Smith with a score of 21-16 21-11, setting up a showdown with defending champions Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa of India. Gutta and Ponnappa defeated another Malaysian partnership, Lai Pei Jing and Lim Yin Loo, with a score of 21-7 21-12.


Men’s Doubles

Singaporeans Chayut Triyachart and Danny Chrisnanta fought hard for a win against England’s Chris Langridge and Peter Mills, eventually prevailing with a score of 16-21 21-16 21-19. They will face Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem of Malaysia in the finals, who secured their spot by defeating another England duo, Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis, with a score of 21-19 21-19.
