News | BWF World Championships

The Wang Lao Ji BWF World Championships 2013 is set to be an exciting event, especially if the two biggest celebrities, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei, meet in the final. In a pre-tournament press conference in Guangzhou, China, these Men’s Singles stars expressed their determination to win the coveted crown for themselves and their respective countries, China and Malaysia.

Both players acknowledged the challenge posed by the younger generation of players, particularly Lin’s compatriot Chen Long. They emphasized their commitment to fight for every point and acknowledged the honor of participating in the championship. Lin Dan, despite being one of the older players, assured fans that he had trained with the same intensity and was prepared to win another world title.

Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan’s archrival and friend, shared his serious desire to add a world championship to his impressive collection of trophies. The players are in opposite halves of the draw, and if fate allows, they could clash in the finale next Sunday.

The championship is equally important for the women’s players, such as Li Xuerui from China, who rose to prominence last season, capturing eight titles, including Olympic glory. Li Xuerui expressed that she feels no pressure despite being China’s potential hope in the later stages of the competition. Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, a three-time world junior champion at only 18 years old, is taking a match-by-match approach to gain experience.
