A Festive Atmosphere at BWF’s Sports Initiation Programme during the Youth Olympic Games 2014

A sense of celebration filled the air on the final day of BWF’s Sports Initiation Programme during the Youth Olympic Games 2014. The programme concluded with a Q&A session and engaging activities led by Athlete Role Model (ARM) Nathan Robertson, along with former Chinese internationals Lu Lan and Cheng Shu. The young participants from the Youth Olympic Games had the opportunity to ask questions, play games, and interact with these badminton legends.

Promoting a Balanced Lifestyle

During the Q&A session, the athletes were asked about the potential conflicts between pursuing a professional badminton career and receiving an education. Both Lu Lan and Robertson strongly emphasized the importance of striking a balance between sports and academics. Lu Lan, who is currently pursuing a Post Graduate degree in Sports Management, highlighted the significance of obtaining an education alongside a sporting career.

Friendship and Fun Games

Following the Q&A session, all participants were divided into groups and engaged in various fun games, including three-a-side matches and ‘touch-and-go.’ This activity aimed to foster interaction and friendship between the young players, ARM representatives, and former Chinese badminton stars. The participants, hailing from different countries, quickly bonded and enjoyed playing alongside each other.

Robertson echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of nurturing international friendships from a young age.

In summary, the BWF’s Sports Initiation Programme during the Youth Olympic Games 2014 was a vibrant and engaging event. Through interactive sessions, Q&A, and fun games, the participants not only learned valuable lessons from experienced athletes but also formed lasting connections with their peers from around the world.
