BWF News: Athletes’ Commission Elections

Some well-known badminton personalities are competing for the opportunity to represent their fellow athletes on the BWF Athletes’ Commission. After the voting process at the Yonex German Open 2013 and the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, the three winners will be announced on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

The candidates running for election are Imogen Bankier from Scotland, Cai Yun and Wang Xin from China, Koo Kien Keat from Malaysia, Kaveh Mehrabi from Iran, Greysia Polii from Indonesia, Yuhan Tan from Belgium, and Hans-Kristian Vittinghus from Denmark. With the exception of Mehrabi, who chaired the outgoing Commission, all the candidates are newcomers seeking office for the first time.

To be eligible to vote, individuals must meet at least one of the following criteria: be listed on the Main & Qualifying list of players for the 2013 YONEX German Open or the YONEX All England Championships, be ranked in the top 150 players in Women’s or Men’s Singles as of January 31, 2013, or be ranked in the top 95 pairs in Women’s, Men’s, or Mixed Doubles as of January 31, 2013.

Voters are required to select one female candidate, one male candidate, and a third candidate of any gender. The three successful candidates will join the current Commission members on a rotational basis. The newly-constituted Commission will have the responsibility to determine a Chair, and the appointed individual will sit on the BWF Council.
