At 26, Georges Julien Paul is not only an exceptional badminton player but also has a clear vision for his post-playing career. After completing his degree in marketing, Paul has decided to pursue the Post Graduate Certificate in International Sport Management scholarship program offered by BWF in collaboration with the World Academy of Sport (WaOS).

The PGCert ISM is specifically tailored to provide opportunities for dual-career athletes who wish to further their education while pursuing their elite sporting goals. This certification program, jointly offered by WaOS and the University of London, can be completed entirely online over a period of five years. It allows athletes to effectively balance their studies with training and competition.

“I completed my degree in marketing management, and I wanted to continue my education while also focusing on my athletic career. I needed a program that would provide me with the flexibility to study alongside my training and competition schedule. When I discovered the BWF-WaOS scholarship program, I was thrilled to be selected as a recipient,” said Paul, who is currently ranked No. 103 and has joined the program in September 2022.

As an athlete from Mauritius, Paul faces the challenge of limited funding for full-time athletes in his country. To overcome this, he emphasizes the importance of having a backup plan through education. The PGCert ISM scholarship program is now his safety net for the future.

During the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2022, Paul showcased his skills by defeating Luis Armando Montoya Navarro from Mexico in a late first-round match, before ultimately falling short against Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

“It was an incredible experience for me because I am not accustomed to playing in such prestigious events. I only participate in them once or twice a year. I thrive in these conditions and against strong opponents because they push me to become a better player. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow from these matches,” explained Paul.

Following the World Championships, Paul has planned to relocate to France to train at a club there. By immersing himself in a new training environment and participating in more tournaments in Europe, he aims to elevate his game even further.

“I have decided to move to a club in France to have access to better sparring opportunities. I will be based in France, training there, and competing in various European tournaments. The level of competition is higher in Europe, and I believe it will help me unlock new possibilities in my career,” shared Paul.
