Badminton Pan America

Our Pan Am champions showcased their skills and brought home medals at the NSDF Royal Beach Cliff BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2024 in Pattaya, Thailand. This prestigious event saw the participation of talented players from Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, and the United States.

Pilar Jauregui’s Success

Pilar Jauregui from Peru shone brightly, winning the silver medal in Singles and a bronze medal in Mixed Doubles. As the defending champion, Pilar entered the competition as the top seed in Singles WH2. She dominated Group A, defeating players from Australia and Egypt. Pilar’s exceptional performance continued as she advanced to the finals, triumphing over Ginns (AUS) in the Quarter-Finals and Yamazaki (JPN) in the Semifinals. Although she eventually lost to Liu Yu Tong (CHN), Pilar secured the well-deserved silver medal.

In Mixed Doubles, Pilar Jauregui partnered with Yuri Ferrigno (ITA) and clinched the bronze medal. They showcased their skills by defeating pairs from the Czech Republic/Poland and Thailand. Although they fell short in the semifinals against Qu Zi/Liu (CHN), Pilar and Yuri confidently secured the 3/4 place in the event.

Victory for SH6 Champions

Our Parapan Am Games champions, Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon (USA), displayed their prowess and won the bronze medal in Mixed Doubles. They overcame formidable opponents from Hong Kong China and India but faced defeat in the semifinals against Lin/Li (CHN).

Miles Krajewski also achieved another bronze medal in Men’s Doubles alongside Vitor Tavares (BRA). Together, they emerged victorious over duos from Peru and Canada, securing their place on the 3/4 podium along with Jesus Salva and Nilton Quispe (PER).

Vitor Tavares stood out as the sole Pan Am athlete to attain a Men’s Singles medal in the World Championships 2024. He triumphed over players from France, Mexico, China, and India to reach the semifinals. Although he faced a tough match against Krishna Nagar (IND), the gold medalist, Vitor emerged with the bronze medal.

Remarkable Achievements for Giuliana Poveda and Rubi Fernandez

Giuliana Poveda and Rubi Fernandez, the World Champions of 2022, showcased their exceptional skills. Although they couldn’t defend their title, they secured the bronze medal in Doubles. They triumphed over pairs from Ukraine, Hong Kong China, and Egypt/USA to reach the semifinals. Additionally, Giuliana Poveda, the Santiago 2023 champion and the World Champion of 2019, claimed the bronze medal in Singles. She displayed her talent by defeating players from India, Hong Kong China, and Poland before falling short in the semifinals against Lin (CHN). Their outstanding performances brought them to the 3/4 position on the podium.
