Badminton Pan America

The Parapan American debut of Para badminton at Lima 2019 was nothing short of exciting. Athletes from countries like Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, the United States, Venezuela, and host Peru showcased their skills and achieved their first victories at the VI Parapan Am Games 2019.

A Promising Start for Para Badminton

The day kicked off with a remarkable performance by Pan American champion Pilar Jauregui from Peru in the WH2 category. Jauregui’s victory in Group A sets the stage for an intense matchup against Maydelin Soriano from Cuba to determine the group winner and secure a spot in the tournament.

In the same category, Yuka Chokyu defeated Daniele Souza and Catalina Jimeno from Chile. On the men’s side, Brazilian duos Marcelo Alves/Julio Cesar Godoy and Rodolfo Cano/Romulo Soares recorded their first wins in Group A and Group B, respectively. Additionally, Jaime Aranguiz/Constancio Cancino from Chile and Bernard Lapointe/Richard Peter from Canada showcased their skills and secured victories in their respective matches.

A Display of Skill and Determination

In the SL3 category, Leonardo Zuffo from Brazil started strong with a victory against William Roussy from Canada. Pedro Pablo de Vinatea also secured a win against Renan Rosso from Brazil, who, in turn, lost to Rolando Bello from Cuba. The upcoming matches between De Vinatea and Bello, as well as Zuffo and Wulnims Franco from Venezuela, are sure to be intense battles.

Raul Anguiano, a five-time Pan Am Champion, made an impressive start by securing a victory against Pablo Cesar Cueto from Peru. Cueto, however, managed to bounce back and win his second match against Eric Johnson from the United States. In Group B, Rogerio De Oliveira from Brazil dominated his matches against Pascal Lapointe from Canada and Anthony Alvarado from Venezuela, securing his qualification for the semifinals.

Celebrating Victories and Pushing Forward

Venezuela celebrated its first victory at Lima 2019 with Kleiber Mijares defeating Esteban Juarez from Peru. Mijares will face Eduardo Oliveira from Brazil in Group A. Meanwhile, Colombia also added a victory with Jean Paul Ortiz, who recovered from an initial loss to Ricardo Cavalli from Brazil and defeated Alberto Cadenillas from Peru in a hard-fought match.

In the SU5 category, Mikaela Almeida from Brazil, Olivia Meier from Canada, Laura Yanes from Cuba, and Jenny Ventocilla showcased their impressive skills. These talented women will continue to compete using the Round Robin system.

The Canadian duo of Pascal Lapointe and Olivia Meier dominated the XD SL3-SU5 competition, securing two victories on the first day. Other teams like Rolando Bello/Laura Yanes from Cuba and Ricardo Cavalli/Abinaecia Da Silva from Brazil also made an impact with one win each and aim to accumulate more points in the upcoming matches.

The Road Ahead

In the SS6 category, Vitor Tavares, Miles Krajewski, Wyatt Lightfoot, and Jesus Salva displayed their prowess, securing victories and setting the stage for the semifinal matches.
