Badminton Pan America

Esteban Fuentes, a coach and manager in Chile, has been closely following the development of badminton in his country. With his experience in various sports, Esteban now aims to share his knowledge and expertise to promote the growth of badminton on a larger scale.

Starting off in badminton relatively late due to his involvement in another sport, Esteban eventually found himself drawn to the federative aspect of badminton. He began working with children and is currently fully immersed in the sport, both in administrative and technical roles. Esteban is dedicated to continuous learning and development to improve his skills and contribute to the comprehensive growth of badminton.

Like other coaches, Esteban’s primary goal is to constantly improve and equip his athletes with the necessary tools to achieve their objectives. At the national level, he also strives to contribute ideas for the overall development of badminton in Chile.

Recognizing the value of ongoing training, Esteban emphasizes the importance of coaches having access to adequate resources at the right time to support their players. He believes that not having the right knowledge at the right moment can lead to wasted time and missed opportunities for athletes. Esteban is hopeful that this issue will be addressed, facilitating the development of badminton in various facets and potentially leading to a Pan-American concert with players from different backgrounds—an ambitious dream shared by many.

Badminton has allowed Esteban to achieve significant milestones, and he continues to harbor new aspirations. However, he remains humble and committed to sharing his knowledge and benefiting those around him. His biggest dream in badminton is to provide resources and assistance to individuals pursuing the sport competitively or administratively. He is passionate about contributing to the community and helping others fulfill their goals in life.

Within the Chilean Badminton Federation, Esteban is responsible for promoting the sport through the Shuttle Time Program. This initiative has been particularly successful in the university field. The Shuttle Time University Program is seen as a powerful methodology that can greatly contribute to badminton’s development in any country. There is immense potential in channeling this program in a structured manner, planting a seed that can lead to numerous developmental benefits in each nation.

In Chile, the Shuttle Time University Program has certified several local universities to teach badminton. The approach involved identifying teachers who were already instructing subjects related to badminton and inviting them to receive training. This allowed the program’s criteria to be applied in their respective universities, resulting in seven incorporations in 2018 and six in 2019.

When asked about the limits to promoting badminton, Esteban firmly believes that providing resources and opportunities for development will continue to drive progress. The goal is not only to add more universities each year but also to offer ongoing training for those who have already embraced badminton education. The potential for growth is incalculable, and the focus is on continuing to invest in training and support.
