BWF News

A month after becoming the World champion, Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen has reached the pinnacle of the BWF World Rankings. Axelsen’s remarkable title triumph at the Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open earned him 9,200 points, propelling him to the top spot with a total of 76,200 points. This achievement makes him the first Dane to hold the Men’s Singles rankings since the legendary Peter Gade.

Not far behind Axelsen, we have Lin Dan from China, who secured the runner-up position in the World Championships and currently sits at No.3. China continues to dominate the top ten with Shi Yuqi at No.4 and Chen Long at No.6. Other notable players in the rankings include Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei (No.5), Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia (No.7), Kidambi Srikanth from India (No.8), Ng Ka Long from Hong Kong (No.9), and Wang Tzu Wei from Chinese Taipei (No.10).

Moving on to the Women’s Singles, Carolina Marin’s recent victory at the Japan Open has propelled her to the fourth spot in the rankings. While Marin’s rise is noteworthy, Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei still retains her lead as the top-ranked player. Tai’s outstanding performance over the past year, which includes winning six titles, has earned her a significant lead of over 13,000 points ahead of Pusarla V Sindhu from India.

In Men’s Doubles, there is an intense battle for the top spot between Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo from Indonesia and Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen from Denmark. Currently, the Indonesians have emerged victorious and claimed the No.1 rank, thanks to their recent Superseries win in Japan. Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda from Japan hold the third spot, followed by two Chinese pairs, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen and Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan, who are the BCA Indonesia Open winners and World champions, respectively.

Notably, Japan has three pairs in the top ten, including Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota, who have had a remarkable season with a win at the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open and a runner-up finish at the World Championships. Korea’s Chang Ye Na/Lee So Hee and Denmark’s Christinna Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter Juhl have also displayed exceptional performances, securing the third and fourth spots, respectively.

China dominates the Mixed Doubles category, occupying four of the top ten positions. Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen, runners-up at the World Championships, currently hold the top spot, followed closely by their compatriots Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong. Indonesian champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir are in fourth place, while Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto, who triumphed at the Victor Korea Open, are at fifth.
