Vietnam’s Pham Cao Cuong and China’s Qin Jinjing faced disappointment in their quest for a quarter-final spot at the Youth Olympic Games 2014. Pham, ranked No. 8 in the Men’s Singles world junior rankings, was unable to advance from Group D after losing to India’s Aditya Joshi. Despite putting up a fight in the second game, Joshi secured victory with a score of 21-16 21-19. Qin also fell short in her Women’s Singles campaign, losing to Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia Hsin. Although Qin won her match against Croatia’s Maja Pavlinic, it was not enough to secure a quarter-final spot as Lee maintained her winning streak in Group C.
On a more positive note, all other favored players progressed smoothly to the next round, with only two singles matches going to three games. In the Men’s Singles quarter-finals, top seed Shi Yuqi will face off against Max Weisskirchen, Cheam June Wei will take on Aditya Joshi, Kanta Tsuneyama will battle Ginting Anthony, and Lee Cheuk Yiu will compete against Lin Gui Pu.
