Defending champions Korea have secured their place in the Mixed Team final of the Universiade Gwangju 2015 with an impressive 3-0 victory over Malaysia. It was a dominant performance by Korea, who now face a tough challenge against China in the final later today.

In the semi-final match against Malaysia, Korea faced little resistance. On the other hand, the China-Thailand semi-final was a closely contested match. Thailand had their chances but lost out at crucial moments. China secured the lead in the Mixed Doubles through Wang Yilv/Yu Xiaohan, winning 20-22, 21-13, 21-12 against Nipitphon Puangpuapech/Chayanit Chaladchalam. Thailand showed resilience as Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk fought hard against Qiao Bin in the Men’s Singles, winning 21-16, 16-21, 21-17. However, China dominated the Men’s Doubles match with Bodin Issara and Nipitphon Puangpuapech, securing a victory of 21-19, 21-12 against Zhang Wen/Wang Yilv. China sealed their spot in the final with Hui Xirui’s narrow 22-20, 22-20 win over Busanan Ongbumrungpan in the Women’s Singles.

In the quarter-finals, Thailand beat Chinese Taipei 3-2, Korea beat Germany 3-0, China beat Japan 3-0, and Malaysia beat Indonesia 3-2. India and Great Britain made it to the L2 final as the second-placed teams of their respective groups. India narrowly defeated France 3-2, with Maneesha K/Meghana Jakkampudi securing a close victory of 21-11, 17-21, 21-18 in the Women’s Doubles. Great Britain triumphed over Russia in a closely-fought tie, winning 3-1. The crucial turning point came in the third match, with Martin Robert Campbell/Patrick Robin Machugh securing a thrilling 16-21, 21-14, 25-23 win over Nikita Khakimov/Vasily Kuznetsov. Chloe Francesca Birch ensured the third point for Great Britain with a victory in the Women’s Singles against Viktoriia Dergunova, winning 21-13, 22-20.

Switzerland and Hong Kong also advanced to the L3 final after defeating USA and Uganda, respectively, with identical 3-0 margins.
