The Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, a new venue specifically built for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has officially opened its doors to the public. Constructed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza will host badminton and fencing events during the Olympic Games, as well as wheelchair basketball during the Paralympic Games. With a seating capacity of over 10,000, the main arena also features a swimming pool, gym, multi-use sports area, and two fitness studios, all available for public use. The facility incorporates state-of-the-art technology, including solar panels on the roof, to minimize its carbon footprint.

Accessibility was a crucial consideration in the design of the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, adhering to the Tokyo 2020 Accessibility Guidelines. Wheelchair spaces are available in the main arena, and the seating arrangement guarantees an unobstructed view for wheelchair users, even if spectators in front of them stand up.

This venue represents the first tangible legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games, signifying the transition from planning to implementation.
