Led by Kenichi Tago, Japan had an outstanding quarter-final day at the Maybank Malaysia Open 2014. Tago surprised everyone by defeating the second seed, Chen Long of China, and stopping a highly anticipated Men’s Singles summit between Chen and Malaysia’s top seed, Lee Chong Wei. The young Indonesian pair executed their tactics to perfection, focusing on net play and outmaneuvering the Koreans. Pratama/Saputra will face Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah in the semi-finals.

In Women’s Doubles, Japan emerged as the dominant force, with Ayaka Takahashi/Misaki Matsutomo securing a win against China’s Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei.
