BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2023: An Exciting Showcase of Young Badminton Talent

The BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2023 is set to take place at The Podium, a state-of-the-art indoor sports arena in Spokane. This prestigious event marks the first time that the USA will host the world’s premier junior badminton competition.

With its impressive 135,000 square feet facility, The Podium boasts a hydraulically banked track spanning 200 meters and a seating capacity of 4200. It’s the perfect venue to showcase the skills of the 390 players from 38 teams participating in the Mixed Team event.

The Championships will commence with group stage ties held on nine courts. The participating teams have been divided into eight groups, with Group A catching the attention of badminton enthusiasts. This group features powerhouses China and defending champions Korea, along with Australia, Netherlands, and Norway.

Fans of the sport should keep an eye out for these outstanding players who are expected to make waves during the tournament:

Alex Lanier (France)

Alex Lanier, a rising star in French badminton, has already made a name for himself as a prodigy. With a current ranking of No.51, the 18-year-old has showcased his talent at various tournaments, including the Thomas Cup and Sudirman Cup. Lanier has clinched victories at lower-level competitions such as the Polish Open and the Canada Open. He will be competing in Group F alongside Spain, Ghana, Hong Kong China, and Belgium.

Tomoka Miyazaki (Japan)

At just 17 years old, Tomoka Miyazaki is already a force to be reckoned with in women’s singles. As the defending champion, she is Japan’s rising star and has already made a mark in the badminton world. Miyazaki reached three finals this year, emerging victorious in two of them. She also made it to the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters, defeating senior compatriot Nozomi Okuhara along the way.

Pitchamon Opatniputh (Thailand)

Pitchamon Opatniputh, fondly known as ‘Pink,’ is a social media sensation and one of Thailand’s most promising young players. At just 16 years old, she has already made a name for herself by reaching the semifinals of the YONEX Taipei Open 2023. Opatniputh’s current ranking sits at an impressive No.57.

Kim Min Ji/Kim Min Sun (Korea)

The Korean twins, Kim Min Ji and Kim Min Sun, played a pivotal role in helping Korea secure the team title last year. Both excel in both singles and doubles disciplines. At the Dutch Junior International this year, they faced off against each other in the singles final and reached the women’s doubles semifinals. Additionally, Kim Min Ji was the runner-up in the Badminton Asia Junior singles championship in July.

Zhu Yi Jun (China)

Zhu Yi Jun demonstrated his prowess on the court last year, achieving double titles in mixed doubles alongside Xu Hua Yu and Liu Sheng Shu. This year, he proved his mettle by finishing as the runner-up in mixed doubles at the Dutch and German Junior Internationals. Zhu also emerged as a double titlist at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in July.
