Sony Dwi Kuncoro shines on the opening day of the BWF World Superseries Finals 2013, securing a convincing victory over Tommy Sugiarto in Group B Men’s Singles. Kuncoro, who has been in good form recently, dominated the match with a 21-19, 21-10 win. Despite a valiant effort from Sugiarto to challenge in the first game, he couldn’t maintain his level when it mattered most. Sugiarto revealed that he is still struggling with a toe injury, which affected his performance in the match. On the other hand, Kuncoro expressed his confidence and enjoyment of the game, looking forward to his next match against Kenichi Tago of Japan.

In another intense match, the Japanese Men’s Doubles pair, Kenichi Hayakawa and Hiroyuki Endo, fought back from a game down to defeat their compatriots Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata. The No. 2 seeds showed great resilience and determination, winning the match 19-21, 21-19, 21-12.

Highlights of the day included the exceptional performance of the Chinese Women’s Doubles pair, Ma Jin and Tang Jinhua, who reunited for this tournament and played with seamless coordination to defeat Indonesia’s Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia Pradipta in straight sets. The Chinese duo showed their experience and dominance, winning the match 21-3, 22-20.

Lee Yong Dae and Ko Sung Hyun, the temporary Korean Men’s Doubles pair, faced a tough challenge against three-time defending champions Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen. The Danish pair showed their respect for their talented opponents, but ultimately secured a 21-16, 21-19 victory.

In the Women’s Singles category, Li Xuerui, the defending champion, started her campaign in style with a dominant 21-9, 21-7 win over Korea’s Bae Yeon Ju in Group B. Li’s Chinese teammate, Wang Shixian, also secured a victory in Group A with a 21-16, 23-21 win against Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
