Message from BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer

As President of BWF, I have the privilege of witnessing the incredible progress our sport is making on the international stage. Over the past few months, we have seen a significant increase in fan engagement and participation numbers.

This positive trend is a result of our investment in events such as the TOTAL BWF World Championships, TOTAL BWF Para Badminton World Championships, and the recent BWF World Junior Championships in Kazan, Russia. These tournaments have played a crucial role in building a sustainable future for badminton.

I would like to commend the organizing committees in Basel and Kazan for their outstanding work in hosting these tournaments. The World Junior Championships, in particular, provided a platform for both developed and developing badminton nations to showcase their next-generation talent.

Expanding into new markets is a top priority for our sport. This was a key focus at the latest BWF Council Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held in October. While China and Asia remain vital growth areas, we are also seeing promising developments in Europe, Pan America, Oceania, and Africa.

We have set our sights on Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 as long-term targets to further broaden our development initiatives and strengthen our position in new projects and partnerships. Additionally, we are excited about the launch of AirBadminton, which aims to create more opportunities for badminton enthusiasts to enjoy the sport outdoors.

The journey to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games is nearing its climax for our elite athletes. They serve as role models and heroes for our future stars, and their extraordinary performances on the court continue to be the most powerful tool in promoting the game.

In closing, I look forward to a busy end of the year, highlighted by the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou. I wish everyone a safe and joyful festive season.
