Son Wan Ho and Akane Yamaguchi take the lead as the top seeds in the singles category for the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2017 in Glasgow.

The seeding list is determined by the World Rankings as of Thursday, August 3, 2017. In the paired events, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen from China, Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi from Japan, and Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen from China are the top seeds in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, respectively. Each category has 16 seeds.

Son from Korea claims the top spot in Men’s Singles, surpassing top contenders Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia, Viktor Axelsen from Denmark, Shi Yuqi and defending champion Chen Long from China, among others. Lin Dan from China, a five-time champion, is seeded seventh.

Meanwhile, Indian players Kidambi Srikanth, Ajay Jayaram, and Sai Praneeth are seeded at No.8, No.13, and No.15, respectively.

Akane Yamaguchi from Japan, Women’s Singles runner-up at the CROWN GROUP Australian Open, is ahead of Sung Ji Hyun from Korea, Carolina Marin from Spain (defending champion), Pusarla V Sindhu from India, and Sun Yu and He Bingjiao from China in the Women’s Singles category.

Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand, former champion, is seeded eighth, followed by World Junior champion Chen Yufei from China.

Japan dominates the Women’s Singles category, with Yamaguchi, Nozomi Okuhara, Sayaka Sato, and Aya Ohori seeded at No.1, No.7, No.10, and No.11, respectively.

Men’s Doubles:

The top four seeds in Men’s Doubles have all won Superseries titles this season. Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen from China, winners of the BCA Indonesia Open, are the top seeds. They are followed by Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark, OUE Singapore Open champions. At No.3 are Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo from Indonesia, who won three straight Superseries titles earlier this season, and Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda from Japan, the Australian Open champions.

China has four pairs seeded, including Li/Liu, Chai Biao/Hong Wei, Zhang Nan/Liu Cheng, and Wang Yilyu/Huang Kaixiang, all of whom are among the top 16.

Olympic silver medalists Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong from Malaysia are seeded fifth, while Olympic bronze medalists Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis from England are seeded fourteenth.

Women’s Doubles:

Matsutomo and Takahashi from Japan, winners of the Australian Open, are the top seeds in Women’s Doubles, followed by Denmark’s Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, whom they defeated in the Olympic final.

Other prominent seeds include All England champions Chang Ye Na and Lee So Hee from Korea (No.3); Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan from China (No.4); Jung Kyung Eun and Shin Seung Chan from Korea (No.5); Huang Dongping and Li Yinhui from China (No.6); and Yonex-Sunrise India Open champions Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto from Japan (No.7).

China, Japan, and Korea dominate in this category, with four seedings each.

Mixed Doubles:

China’s Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen, the most dominant Mixed Doubles pair this season, are the No.1 seeds, followed by Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong from China as the No.2 seeds. The Indonesia Open champions, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir from Indonesia, are seeded third. Other notable seeds include Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui from China (No.4), Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock from England (No.5), and Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen from Denmark (No.6).

The TOTAL BWF World Championships will take place at Emirates Arena in Glasgow from August 21 to 27, 2017.
