Kento Momota Makes a Triumphant Return to Badminton

After almost a year of absence, Kento Momota, the world’s number one badminton player, has made a remarkable comeback. Momota, who suffered a fractured eye socket in an accident following his victory at the PERODUA Malaysia Masters in January 2020, returned to the court with a resounding victory at the All-Japan National Championships.

In his first-round match against Koshiro Moriguchi, Momota displayed his exceptional skills, defeating his opponent 21-12, 21-14. Despite his initial nerves, Momota regained his composure in the second game and showcased his trademark power with a smashing shot that sealed his victory.

Speaking after the match, Momota expressed his delight at being back on the court, stating, “I went out onto the court and it really felt like I was back. I enjoyed it.” The two-time world champion also acknowledged that there were areas for improvement, particularly in reducing mistakes and refining his reaction to each shot.

With the YONEX Thailand Open and TOYOTA Thailand Open just around the corner, Momota has the opportunity to further fine-tune his game. If he can reach his peak performance in Bangkok, he will undoubtedly be a formidable opponent for any player.

Momota’s participation in the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals will depend on his performance in Thailand. Currently, he is looking to accumulate enough points to secure a spot among the top eight shuttlers in the HSBC BWF Road to Bangkok Rankings.
