Thousands of local school children and young members of junior badminton clubs across the country are being given the opportunity to attend the YONEX All England Open Championships at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena in March for just £1. This initiative, known as the ‘Kids for a Quid’ campaign, represents a renewed commitment to engaging young people in the sport of badminton. It is a unique opportunity for the next generation of badminton players to celebrate the Championships’ 125th anniversary.

The YONEX All England Championships, which start on Tuesday, March 12th, will take place at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham for six days of world-class badminton. This year, the event aims to involve local schools, inviting them to apply for exclusive £1 tickets. Since the launch of the campaign, over 80 schools have signed up, with nearly 3,000 tickets already applied for. Additionally, affiliated junior badminton clubs under Badminton England will also have the opportunity to attend, potentially bringing up to 5,000 young people to the event during the first three days.

Championships Director, Chris Miller, expressed excitement about inspiring the next generation of badminton players and building stronger ties with the local community in Birmingham and the West Midlands. He hopes that the event will be a festival of badminton, with the young audience helping to bring vibrant energy to the sport.

The Utilita Arena will not only showcase the world’s fastest racket sport on the court but also provide fun and interactive activities in the arena and on the concourses. These activities are tailored to engage the young, vibrant badminton audience attending the event. The aim is to inspire potential future stars to take up badminton in their schools, local leisure centers, or with their nearest junior club.
