Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying showcases her exceptional talent at the Victor Korea Open Superseries Premier event, securing a remarkable victory over the sixth seed, Ratchanok Intanon. Despite losing the first game, the 18-year-old Tai staged a remarkable comeback, winning the match 13-21 22-20 21-17. This win marks her third consecutive victory over Intanon in their seven encounters. Tai’s recent good form and promising performance at the Japan Open in 2012 have undoubtedly contributed to her success.

Women’s Singles Results

The Women’s Singles category witnessed some surprising developments. The top two seeds from China, Li Xuerui and Wang Yihan, retired from their matches against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk (Thailand) and Bae Yeon Ju (Korea), respectively. On the other hand, other favored players like Wang Shixian, Jiang Yanjiao (both from China), Tine Baun (Denmark), and Juliane Schenk (Germany) progressed to the next round without any major challenges. Indian player Saina Nehwal faced a tough match against Thai player Sapsiree Taerattanachai but managed to secure a hard-fought victory with a score of 17-21 21-9 21-19.

Men’s Singles Results

Europe had a successful day in the Men’s Singles category, with players like Marc Zwiebler (Germany), Viktor Axelsen, Jan O Jorgensen (Denmark), Vladimir Ivanov (Russia), and Ville Lang (Finland) advancing to the second round. China, however, had a mixed day, with second seed Chen Long retiring from the tournament and Macau Open champion Chen Yuekun losing to Russia’s Ivanov (21-19 21-15). Fourth seed Du Pengyu secured an easy victory over Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei with an impressive score of 21-7 21-12. Qualifier Gao Huan surprised his senior compatriot Chen Jin, winning the match 14-21 21-14 21-15. Malaysia’s top seed, Lee Chong Wei, faced a tough challenge from Wang Zhengming from China, ultimately winning the match 17-21 21-14 21-16.

  • Olympic champions Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng (Men’s Doubles) retired from their first-round match.
  • Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Zeiba, the European champions from Poland, avenged their Bitburger Open loss to Anders Kristiansen/Julie Houmann (Denmark), winning the match 21-13 25-23. They will face Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White from England in the next round of the Mixed Doubles category.
  • In Women’s Doubles, Japan’s Miyuki Maeda, playing with Reika Kakiiwa instead of her regular partner, Satoko Suetsuna, won their first-round match against Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva/Dimitria Popstoikova with a score of 21-15 21-16.
  • Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov had a successful day, not only winning his singles match but also partnering with Ivan Sozonov to win their Men’s Doubles match against Markis Kido/Alvent Yulianto Chandra (Indonesia) with a score of 21-13 21-15.
