Wang Shixian demonstrated her tenacity yet again, securing her place in the quarter-finals of the Yonex Denmark Open 2012. This marks her second remarkable comeback victory in a row, having saved two match points against Nichaon Jindapon.

In a thrilling and longest match of the day lasting 1 hour and 19 minutes, Wang, ranked world No. 5, fought back from an 18-20 deficit in the third game to defeat her Thai opponent 22-20, 17-21, 22-20. Jindapon, ranked 57, displayed great potential as a young Thai player, having already defeated formidable opponents this season.

Throughout the match, Jindapon matched Wang’s every move, engaging in long rallies and showcasing a variety of shots. Wang’s precision and ability to deliver flawless shots during critical points ultimately tilted the match in her favor.
Wang acknowledged the tough challenge Jindapon presented, stating, “It was a close match, we were at the same level. I think my focus was better during the big points – and I got lucky.”
In other Women’s Singles matches, the remaining seeded players secured their spots in the quarter-finals. Li Xuerui (2), Wang Yihan (1), Jiang Yanjiao (8), Saina Nehwal (India, 3), Tine Baun (Denmark, 5), Juliane Schenk (Germany, 6), and Sung Ji Hyun (Korea, 7) all advanced.

Meanwhile, in Men’s Singles, Malaysia celebrated victories as Daren Liew and Chun Seang Tan upset Sho Sasaki (Japan, 5) and Simon Santoso (Indonesia, 4) respectively. Liew’s triumph sets up an all-Malaysian clash with Lee Chong Wei, while Chun Seang Tan will face Du Pengyu (China, 7).
Denmark’s hopes in the Men’s Singles remain alive with Jan O Jorgensen’s hard-fought win over Kenichi Tago (Japan, 8), securing his place in the next round.
However, Denmark faced disappointment in the Mixed Doubles as Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen fell to Indonesian pair Muhammad Rijal and Debby Susanto.
