Badminton Pan America

The TOTAL BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2019, taking place in Basel, Switzerland from August 20 to 25, will feature players from Pan America. Let’s take a closer look at the athletes representing Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Peru, and United States who have qualified for this prestigious event.

Pan American Representation

Several notable players from Pan America have earned their qualification and are prepared to compete against the best players in the world. Let’s highlight some of these talented athletes:

Giuliana Poveda (Peru)

Giuliana Poveda from Peru, currently ranked number one in the world in the SS6 category, is a strong contender for the title in the Women’s Singles event. Poveda will face defending champion Rachel Choong, whom she lost to in the previous edition, in her pursuit of the crown. Additionally, Poveda will team up with Katherine Valli from the United States in the Women’s Doubles event, aiming for the gold.

Vitor Tavares (Brazil)

Brazil’s Vitor Tavares is another prominent athlete to watch out for in the SS6 category. Tavares will compete in the Men’s Singles event, as well as the Men’s Doubles with Miles Krajewski from the United States. In addition, he will partner with Ruby Fernandez from Peru in the Mixed Doubles event.

Pilar Jauregui (Peru)

Pilar Jauregui, the Pan Am Champion in WH2, is ranked fifth and determined to showcase her skills in both the Singles and Doubles events.

Yuka Chokyu and Pascal Lapointe (Canada)

Canadian players Yuka Chokyu and Pascal Lapointe will also be competing in this World Championships. Chokyu aims for a podium finish in the Women’s Singles WH1 event and will partner with Pilar Jauregui in the Women’s Doubles. Lapointe, on the other hand, will participate in the Men’s Singles SL4 event and team up with Olivia Meier from Canada in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 event.

Marcelo Alves and Julio Cesar Godoy (Brazil)

Marcelo Alves and Julio Cesar Godoy from Brazil have their eyes set on the gold in the Doubles WH1-WH2 category. As the reigning Pan Am Champions in 2018, they will also compete in the Singles events, with Alves in WH1 and Godoy in WH2.

Jean Paul Ortiz (Colombia)

Colombia’s star player, Jean Paul Ortiz, will compete in the SU5 category, aiming to showcase his best performance and bring home a medal for his country.

Cintya Oliveira (Brazil)
