In 2020, the BWF Membership Grants Programme was activated, providing funds to over 100 BWF Member Associations (MAs) in November. The goal of these grants was to revive badminton activities with a focus on ‘Back to Badminton’. Africa – Senegal
CNPB Senegal took the initiative to deliver BWF Shuttle Time Tutors and Teachers courses in November and December. The courses aimed to promote and develop the sport of badminton. Participants included 34 PE teachers from different regions of the country. At the end of the courses, 14 participants received certification as BWF Shuttle Time Tutors and Teachers.

Asia – UAE

In December, Dubai’s renowned sports club, Al Nasr, made history by launching its women’s badminton team. This move marked the first time a national club prioritized badminton as a sport. Twenty-six women joined the program, where they will receive training from certified coaches for national and international tournaments. Plans are underway to establish national club programs and kickstart the National Women’s League in the first half of 2021.
Ghazi Al Madani, Chairman of the UAE Badminton Committee, expressed his confidence that girls now have a complete pathway to excellence with badminton entering the national club system.
Europe – Kosovo
The Badminton Federation of Kosovo organized a camp in November to introduce AirBadminton to club players. Additionally, a separate event promoting badminton was held at Don Bosko College, attracting 70 participants, including students from seven elementary schools in the Municipality of Gjilan.
Lulzim Haziri, President of the Kosovo Badminton Federation, highlighted the growing popularity of the sport among the young population.
Oceania – Fiji

The Fiji Nationals and Junior Nationals took place over four days in November, bringing together an impressive 118 players across 21 events. After a period of COVID-19 restrictions, the players were thrilled to finally compete again!
Barry Whiteside, President of the Fiji Badminton Association, expressed the players’ enthusiasm to get back into competition after the COVID-19-enforced downtime.
PanAm – Suriname
In December, the Suriname Badminton Association organized an AirBadminton launch event to encourage the public to experience this new outdoor game. The event featured a Mini Team competition on two beach sand courts and a tryout session on three grass courts. Over 60 people participated in this exciting event.
