Born and raised in Victoria, Araucanía region, Chile, I have always had a deep love for sports. Thanks to my grandparents, who were PE teachers, I had the privilege of being involved in various sports as both a participant and a spectator. Whether it was basketball, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, or swimming, sports were a significant part of my life. I would enthusiastically watch local games in our city and eagerly follow major events like World Championships and Olympic Games, dreaming of one day participating in such prestigious competitions myself.

Discovering Badminton: A Sport Like No Other
It was in 2008, during a PE class, that I first encountered badminton. Unlike any other sport I had seen before, badminton’s unique feature was the shuttlecock. The game unfolded in the air, with the shuttlecock defying gravity and not bouncing on the ground like a traditional ball. Intrigued by this distinctive characteristic, I embarked on a journey to learn and master the sport.

When I entered university in 2011, I actively sought opportunities to practice and hone my badminton skills. I initially specialized as a line judge, participating in international tournaments held in Temuco, Chile. As time went on, I transitioned into being an umpire and extended my support to the Victoria Sports Club, where I embarked on my coaching career in 2012. This period was filled with continuous learning, whether it was through officiating matches, playing the sport, or coaching others. With each passing day, my passion for badminton grew, and I discovered new aspects and nuances that fascinated me.
The World of Para Badminton and Coaching
In 2017, I dedicated my focus to Para badminton. During this time, I had the privilege of accompanying the team for a brief but impactful period leading up to the Lima 2019 ParaPan American Games. Additionally, since 2018, I have been actively supporting and attending South American tournaments with the abled team. Today, I proudly serve as the National Development Coordinator of Shuttle Time at the Chilean Badminton Federation, while also working as a private coach in Victoria.
Memorable Moments and the Meaning of Badminton
Throughout my journey as a judge and coach, there have been many memorable moments. One that stands out is the Youth Games in 2017, where I served as a judge. As a coach, my proudest memory is the Parapan American Games, where I had the honor of being the Head Coach. In these moments, I vividly recall the invaluable support and strength provided by individuals like Don José Muñoz and Constancio Cancino, who played pivotal roles in the athletes’ lives.

Through competitive experiences at the international level, I now have the opportunity to guide children who share the same aspirations I once held. Witnessing their dreams come true is an indescribable feeling. It is a lifelong commitment, a testament to the dreams my grandparents may have had when they introduced me to sports at a young age.
