When asked about how he got into badminton, Francis explains, “I started playing badminton just three months ago. I used to play basketball, and one day, the badminton coach asked me if I wanted to try this discipline. I gave it a shot, and I instantly fell in love with it. I initially started playing badminton while jumping, but later transitioned to playing in a wheelchair.”

Stepping into the World of Tournaments

Francis had his first taste of competitive badminton at the Peru Para Badminton International in 2017. He describes the experience as extremely exciting.

Setting Goals for the Future

In terms of his future objectives, Francis shares, “Now that I have started playing with prostheses instead of a wheelchair, I am determined to improve my skills. My short and medium-term goals include qualifying for the 2019 Pan American Games and hopefully winning a medal.”

Balancing Career and Passion

Apart from his career as an athlete, Francis also pursued his studies in Modern Languages and now teaches English to children and teenagers. Balancing training and work can be challenging, but Francis manages his time well. He mentions, “It is difficult because my training facility is an hour away from my home. However, my flexible work schedule allows me to manage both effectively.”

Beyond Sporting Achievements

Badminton has given Francis more than just sporting accomplishments. He reflects, “Through badminton, I have learned important values like respect, honesty, and the ability to make new friends.”

Hobbies and Interests

When he’s not on the badminton court, Francis enjoys teaching English and indulging in his passion for dancing. These hobbies add joy to his life and provide him with a well-rounded sense of fulfillment.

Alberto Armansa was Francis’ first coach, who played a pivotal role in his development. As for his club representation, Francis proudly represents the national federation of the Dominican Republic.
