Even as a Technology Executive, Nichole never let go of her passion for badminton. She has been playing the sport since school and has even participated in local tournaments, achieving some victories along the way. Her involvement in badminton gradually expanded beyond playing, as she also became an umpire and developed an interest in sports administration.

“I volunteered to assist with organizing a local tournament sanctioned by one of my clubs. This experience led to an invitation to join the Jamaica Badminton Association as a council member. I continued supporting the execution of Jamaica Badminton’s tournaments and played a key role in refining the process used to evaluate, classify, and promote players based on their technical skills and tournament performances. I also ensured a bias-free team selection for the National Squad. After another year as a council member, I was elected as the 2nd Vice President and eventually became the President in 2017.”

As the President, Nichole holds a crucial position that demands great responsibility. Her time as part of the council allowed her to learn and develop the necessary leadership and management skills that the Association needed.

“I was not prepared to take on this role on my own. I assumed the position with the support of key members of the Executive and council body who shared a similar vision for the development of Badminton in Jamaica.”

Despite her demanding day job as a Technology Executive, Nichole continues to practice badminton as her mind and body wellness program.

“Playing badminton has been my ultimate stress relief. It plays an integral role in creating balance in my life. I am grateful for being introduced to the sport as a youngster and grateful that I have continued to play after all these years.”
