Badminton Pan America

Giuliana, an accomplished athlete, has been playing badminton for the past two years. In 2017, she achieved great success in various tournaments, earning medals in every competition she participated in. However, Giuliana’s victories extend beyond the playing field, as badminton has had a profound impact on her life. Let’s delve deeper into Giuliana’s journey and discover what makes this sport so special to her.

A Journey of Joy and Discovery

“Badminton has brought me immense joy. It is a sport that I love and learn from every single day. I never imagined that someone with disabilities could play badminton almost as well as anyone else, and that realization has been truly remarkable. Through badminton, I have had the opportunity to connect with wonderful individuals from different countries, learning and growing as a player and as a person. I have no regrets about choosing badminton as my sport.”

Giuliana’s passion for sports began with volleyball, which she played for several years. As a member of the short stature volleyball team, Giuliana initially pursued her dreams in this sport. However, due to irregular attendance by her teammates, she was unable to advance in volleyball. It was at this point that the president of the Short Stature Federation in Peru introduced her to badminton. Intrigued and willing to explore new possibilities, Giuliana decided to give badminton a try, and it quickly became her favorite sport. While the initial stages were challenging and unfamiliar, Giuliana’s background in volleyball proved beneficial, aiding her in improving her technique and overall performance.

A Journey of Achievements

Over the past two years, Giuliana has participated in a total of 12 national and 7 international tournaments, including the 2017 World Dwarf Games and the 2017 Parabadminton World Championships in Ulsan, Korea. Her most significant achievement to date came in the form of a silver medal at the World Para-Badminton Championships in Korea, where she competed against some of the best athletes in the world. The experience was both exhilarating and humbling, as Giuliana witnessed firsthand the hard work and dedication displayed by each athlete.

Traveling the world for competitions has been one of the many benefits Giuliana has derived from playing badminton. She has had the opportunity to visit countries such as Colombia, Canada, the United States, Brazil, and South Korea. Among these, Canada holds a special place in her heart, as it was there that she participated in the World Dwarf Games, an event that felt like being in a world tailored to her needs and experiences.

Balancing Passion and Responsibility

Juggling training and competitions with daily life can be demanding for any athlete, and Giuliana is no exception. In addition to training with the Peruvian Para-Badminton team, she is preparing to enter university, studying English, playing volleyball, and even playing the guitar. Striving to excel in multiple areas requires determination and sacrifice. Giuliana had to temporarily put her English classes on hold to accommodate her tournament schedule, but she still found ways to study whenever possible. Her friends, teachers, and family have been supportive, helping her stay on top of her academic responsibilities while pursuing her athletic dreams.

A Journey to the Top

The dedication and hard work invested by Giuliana, her family, friends, and coaches have paid off. At just 16 years old, she has become the number one player in her region. While being the best in the continent is a remarkable achievement, Giuliana’s sights are set even higher. Her ultimate goal is to become the number one player in the world. She believes in her abilities and remains committed to putting in the necessary effort to make her dreams a reality.

A Journey of Gratitude

Giuliana’s badminton journey has been filled with unforgettable moments and valuable connections. She attributes her early success to her first trainer, Isaac Nuñez, a Peruvian coach who imparted the fundamentals of badminton to her. Giuliana also had the privilege of training alongside Pedro Pablo de Vinatea, a Panamerican champion in the SL3 category. Seeing Pedro Pablo’s achievements inspired Giuliana to strive for greatness. She respects him immensely and acknowledges that he has more experience in the sport, but she also takes pride in surpassing his accomplishments.

Giuliana’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and undying passion. She wants to share a message of hope and possibility with others: “In this life, everything is achievable, nothing is impossible. If you set your mind to something and work hard, you can accomplish anything, with the help of dedication and faith. With God by your side, all things are possible.”

As the year begins, Giuliana is filled with optimism and determination. She is ready to showcase her skills and give her best in upcoming international tournaments in Spain, Brazil, and Peru. The Pan Am Para-Badminton community eagerly awaits to witness the talent and spirit of Giuliana firsthand.
