The Suhandinata Cup: A Triumph for Korea’s Young Badminton Players

Korea’s young badminton players showcased their talent and determination by securing the 2013 World Junior Mixed Team championship in a thrilling 3-2 finale against Indonesia. The intense battle took place at Hua Mark Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and it was the female members of the Korean team who delivered the decisive blows.

Despite finding themselves 1-2 down to their rivals, Korea remained composed and rallied back to win the last two matches: Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles. This remarkable comeback allowed them to claim the title as the curtains fell on the first phase of the SCG BWF World Junior Championships 2013.

The semi-final heroes from Indonesia, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Masita Mahmudin, got off to a fine start by defeating Choi Sol Kyu and Chae Yoo Jung in the Mixed Doubles match (21-19 21-16). However, Jeon Hyuk Jin from Korea quickly leveled the tie by claiming the Men’s Singles match 21-16 21-19 against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.

Sukamuljo returned to the court with Arya Maulana Aldiartama and put Indonesia back in the lead with a hard-fought victory in the Men’s Doubles match over Choi Sol Kyu and Heo Kwang Hee (21-16 22-20). With the score now at 2-1 in favor of Indonesia, Korea could not afford any further missteps.
