BWF News

Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen faced an unexpected defeat in the afternoon session at the BWF World Superseries Finals today. The Danish Men’s Doubles pair, who have been reigning champions since 2010, were surprised by the outstanding performance of Japan’s Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa. Endo and Hayakawa, whom Boe and Mogensen defeated in last year’s final, managed to outplay them in just 38 minutes, winning 21-18 21-15 and leading Group B. This victory was Endo and Hayakawa’s first in four matches against the Europeans.

Endo and Hayakawa were thrilled with their remarkable performance and expressed how much progress they have made since last year. They now consider themselves on the same level as Boe and Mogensen, who they used to admire. Their confidence has grown as they performed well this season and retained their Japan national title last week. In their next match, they will be facing Koreans, Lee Yong Dae and Ko Sung Hyun.

Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei achieved a personal milestone in Women’s Singles Group A by defeating Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk for the first time in five matches. The Taipei teen’s sharp skills and deceptive game proved effective against Buranaprasertsuk, as she scored a 21-19 21-17 victory. Tai mentioned that she hadn’t had a great year after winning the Malaysia Open Superseries and felt tired at recent tournaments. Determined to stay in the competition, she gave it her all in today’s match.

Sung Ji Hyun of Korea had a disappointing match against China’s Wang Shixian, losing 21-12 21-15. Sung has been a tough competitor for top Chinese players in recent tournaments and had beaten Wang in their last two encounters. However, she appeared sluggish and struggled to keep her tosses deep, allowing Wang to dominate the game with her sharp drops.

In Men’s Singles Group B, Japan’s Kenichi Tago managed to escape a perilous situation and defeat Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro for the first time in eight attempts. Tago was struggling in the first game and much of the second, trailing 7-15. However, he made a remarkable comeback, winning 12 of the next 13 points and securing a 12-21 21-19 21-17 victory. In another Group B match, Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto defeated Hu Yun of Hong Kong with a 21-9 21-16 verdict.
