News | BWF World Championships

Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei faces a challenging start to his World Championships journey as he takes on Brice Leverdez in the opening round of the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2018 in Nanjing, China. Last year, Lee suffered an early exit at the hands of Leverdez, marking his earliest departure from the event despite his previous silver medal-winning performances. This exciting clash is just one of the many intriguing matchups that emerged during the TOTAL BWF World Championships 2018 Draw Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur.

MEN’S SINGLES

In the Men’s Singles category, reigning World champion Viktor Axelsen is slated to face Olympic champion Chen Long in the quarter-finals. Additionally, we could see clashes between Chinese players Shi Yuqi and Lin Dan in the third round of the second quarter. Asian champion Kento Momota, who is currently in superb form, is in the third quarter alongside Anders Antonsen and Son Wan Ho. The bottom quarter features second seed Lee, India’s Kidambi Srikanth, and recent TOYOTA Thailand Open winner Kanta Tsuneyama.

WOMEN’S SINGLES

Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying, who has triumphed in four events this year, may have to contend with USA’s Beiwen Zhang in the third round. Reigning champion Nozomi Okuhara could potentially face compatriot Aya Ohori or Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei in the third round, setting the stage for a potential quarter-final clash against India’s Pusarla V Sindhu, whom she defeated in a thrilling World Championships final last year.
