BWF World Tour: Ginting Denies Loh Kean Yew a Spot in Singapore Open Final

In an exciting match at the Singapore Open 2022, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting emerged as the victor, denying Loh Kean Yew and the home crowd the opportunity to witness a local finalist after 12 years. Ginting, ranked sixth in the world, secured a straight games victory, with a scoreline of 21-17, 21-14 in just 37 minutes. This win marks Ginting’s return to a final after a long wait since his victory at the 2020 Indonesia Masters.

Ginting’s game plan was clear from the start – not to let Loh dictate the match. As both players are known for their speed, Ginting focused on neutralizing his opponent’s strengths while taking the initiative in attacking and maintaining patience. Loh seemed to struggle under the weight of the crowd’s expectations, which Ginting understood all too well.

To claim the championship title, Ginting now faces surprise finalist Kodai Naraoka. Naraoka, ranked 43rd in the world, defeated higher-ranked players Jonatan Christie and Prannoy H. S. on his way to the final. While Ginting admits not knowing much about Naraoka’s game, he acknowledges the caliber of players that Naraoka has beaten and expects a tough and exciting battle ahead.

In other matches, Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie came close to upsetting mixed doubles top seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai. However, a lapse in concentration in the decider allowed the Thai pair to secure victory with a score of 21-17, 16-21, 22-20.
