Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo have been crowned the BWF Male Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while China’s Huang Yaqiong took home the BWF Female Player of the Year award at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2018 Gala Dinner.

Celebrating Excellence

The ‘Minions’ from Indonesia, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, emerged victorious, beating out competition from Zheng Siwei (China) and Kento Momota (Japan). Similarly, Huang Yaqiong prevailed, triumphing over Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei) and Japan’s Women’s Doubles duo Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota. This prestigious accolade serves as both recognition and motivation for their outstanding performances throughout the season. Sukamuljo expressed, “It’s a great honor to win this award for the second straight time. It’s an inspiration for us to keep working hard. We did well all through the season, but I would say our highlight was winning the Asian Games gold.” Huang Yaqiong, equally thrilled, stated, “I’m very excited. Last year I was nominated for the award, but I missed it. This time I finally won this award, and I feel really happy. My highlight this year must be the World Championships gold in Nanjing.”
