MetLife Launches Youth Development Program in Hong Kong

MetLife, the title sponsor of the BWF World Superseries, has recently introduced the “MetLife Badminton – Youth Development Program” in Hong Kong. This initiative, held during the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2014, aimed to teach young individuals eight essential life skills through a series of learn-to-play badminton workshops. The program focused on communication, respect, responsibility, trust, teamwork, decision making, goal setting, and leadership.

MetLife, being a responsible corporate citizen, is committed to implementing long-term community programs that incorporate sports and health and wellness activities. In collaboration with the Change Foundation and with the support of the King & Georgie Badminton Club, this project was developed to benefit the local community.

On November 20, MetLife organized a badminton festival in Tsim Sha Tsui to celebrate the graduation of over 100 participants from this meaningful program. The festival featured interactive badminton activities, fun games, and the opportunity for the young individuals to engage with former world-class badminton stars and local celebrities. The participants expressed their happiness, not only for the improvement in their badminton skills but also for the valuable life skills they gained throughout the program.

Former top men’s singles player, Morten Frost, also attended the event and highlighted the significance of involving younger generations in badminton. Frost stated, “Young people are the future of badminton. To make it more popular and increase participation, we need to engage the youth in a fun and interactive manner to sustain their interest.”

The festival concluded with a ceremony where all participants received medals and certificates of achievement. Additionally, MetLife donated all the badminton sports equipment used in the program to the participating schools, with the aim of promoting the spirit of badminton and sports in the future.
