The China Masters 2023 concluded with an impressive performance by the host country, as they claimed victory in all five categories. In the Men’s Singles final, Wang Zhengming emerged as the champion, defeating his compatriot Huang Yuxiang in a thrilling match with a score of 22-20, 21-19. This win marked Wang’s return to form, as he had previously won the title in 2013.

Throughout the tournament, Wang faced tough challenges, particularly in the quarter-finals against Zhao Jun Peng, who managed to take a game off him. On the other hand, Huang Yuxiang had a challenging path to the final, securing three-game victories against Hsueh Hsuan Yi from Chinese Taipei in the second round and Derek Wong from Singapore in the quarter-finals. He then displayed an impressive performance in the semi-finals, defeating the second seed Tian Houwei with a score of 21-15, 21-11.

In the Women’s Singles category, He Bing Jiao, the winner of the Youth Olympic Games, claimed victory by comfortably defeating her compatriot Hui Xirui with a score of 21-13, 21-9. He Bing Jiao showcased her dominance throughout the tournament, securing straight-game victories against Zhang Yiman in the second round, Shen Yaying in the quarter-finals, and Chen Yu Fei in the semi-finals.

Interestingly, the final day of the tournament featured only Chinese players, with the exception of the Indonesian Mixed Doubles pair, Edi Subaktiar and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja. The Mixed Doubles final was undoubtedly the most thrilling match of the day. The Indonesians faced off against recent India Open winners Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin and almost pulled off a remarkable upset. Despite trailing 13-17 in the first game, they managed to stage a comeback and win the game. The third game was a nail-biting battle, with Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin leveling the score from 16-19 down. Although the Indonesians saved five match points, they ultimately succumbed on the sixth, ending the marathon battle with a score of 18-21, 21-15, 26-24 in favor of Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin after 80 minutes of intense play.

In the Men’s Doubles final, Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen emerged victorious over Wang Yilv and Zhang Wen after a thrilling three-game match that ended with a score of 21-15, 19-21, 21-12. Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen encountered some challenges throughout the tournament but managed to triumph over Huang Kaixing and Yu Xiaoyu in the quarter-finals and Kang Jun and Liu Cheng in the semi-finals. The top-seeded pair, Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan, were eliminated in the second round by Liao Min Chun and Tseng Min Hao from Chinese Taipei.

In the Women’s Doubles final, Tang Jinhua and Zhong Qianxin emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle against Bao Yixin and Tang Yuanting. The match ended with a score of 21-14, 11-21, 21-17 in favor of Tang Jinhua and Zhong Qianxin. In the semi-finals, Tang and Zhong defeated top seeds Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei from Malaysia, while Bao and Tang showcased their skills by outclassing the younger Chinese pair of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yi Fan, who are also the World Junior champions.

The China Masters 2023 was a showcase of the host country’s dominance, with Chinese players sweeping all five categories. The tournament provided thrilling matches and memorable performances, leaving badminton fans around the world in awe of the exceptional skill and talent on display.
