BWF News: Promoting an Active Lifestyle Through Badminton

International badminton stars recently partnered with HSBC executives to inspire an active and healthy lifestyle through the joy of badminton at the ‘City Badminton’ event in Hong Kong. This initiative, led by HSBC Life, saw the participation of Helen Wong, HSBC’s Greater China Chief Executive, Edward Moncreiffe, HSBC Life’s Hong Kong CEO, and renowned badminton players including Fu Haifeng, Lee Yong Dae, and Viktor Axelsen.

The event offered the opportunity for various community groups, such as the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability, students from Pui Kiu College, and local junior talents, to engage with the sport through coaching clinics, injury prevention seminars, play-to-win activities, and free-play with friends and family. In total, over 3,000 visitors were introduced to the importance of physical and mental wellness through exercise.

Edward Moncreiffe spoke about the significance of this event, saying, “As a leading life insurer in Hong Kong, helping build a healthier community is one of HSBC Life’s promises, and this is the reason why we have been supporting a number of initiatives through HSBC’s partnership with BWF. We hope this can encourage people to lead an active life and start taking control of their wellbeing for both the body and the mind so that they can live longer, fitter, and happier.”

The event also served as the launch for the YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2018, a prestigious tournament that is part of the HSBC BWF World Tour. Unfortunately, Viktor Axelsen, the current World No.4 in men’s singles, had to miss the competition due to an injury. Nevertheless, he expressed his enthusiasm about being able to inspire young aspiring badminton players and helping them reach their full potential.

HSBC partnered with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) earlier this year, with the aim of promoting badminton’s popularity worldwide. The four-year deal includes the title sponsorship of the HSBC BWF World Tour, as well as the season-ending HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in December.
