Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Make Historic Home Final at YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2022

In a remarkable achievement, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have secured their place in the finals of the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2022. This is not only their first home final but also a chance to compete against their idols, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.

The semifinals proved to be dominant performances for both teams. The Daddies, as Rankireddy and Shetty are known, defeated Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi with a score of 21-15, 21-18. In the other match, the Indians overcame Fabien Delrue and William Villeger from France with a score of 21-10, 21-18.

Shetty expressed his elation, saying, “It’s overwhelming. It’s our first final after a very long time.” Their previous final appearance was at the French Open in October 2019. He further added, “The last year we couldn’t reach a final. Really happy that we could start this year on a good note. To play Ahsan/Setiawan, it couldn’t have gotten any better.”

Rankireddy and Shetty are well aware of the challenge that awaits them in the final against Ahsan and Setiawan. They anticipate a match where the Indonesians will limit their attacking opportunities. However, they look forward to facing their idols and plan to have fun on the court. They believe that controlling the net will be crucial in determining the outcome of the match.

The Daddies also acknowledge Ahsan and Setiawan’s playing style, describing them as smart and not reliant on speed. They expect the Indonesians to focus on playing close to the net and taking chances. However, Rankireddy and Shetty are confident in their attacking capabilities and anticipate that their opponents will not lift the shuttlecock often.

In the other semifinal, Ahsan and Setiawan showcased their dominance over Ong and Teo. Their control at the net and short rallies prevented their opponents from gaining momentum. This victory marks their first final appearance since the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in December 2019.

Looking ahead to the final, Setiawan expressed their determination to perform at their best. After experiencing a dip in form following the Tokyo Olympics, the duo aims to regain their top-level performance. Setiawan also mentioned his recovery from Covid-19 and assured that he is fully fit for the upcoming match.

This exciting final matchup promises to be an intense battle between two talented teams. Badminton enthusiasts eagerly await the outcome as Rankireddy and Shetty aim to make history on their home turf. Stay tuned for the results!
